The week leading up to a big race is always a tough week for me.  I have a hard time cutting back on training and resting for the race.  Most weeks during the year I have a full training load and I get very comfortable with that.  When I taper down for a race, I have a hard time dealing with cutting back durations and intensities.  I'm sure I've gone into races more tired than I should have been.  The 6 days before IM Canada I put in 7 hours of training!

That being said, it's race week now and I'm doing what I always do.

Well, the title of the blog says it all.  I just got a refund in the mail from Tricolumbia making my withdrawal from Eagleman official.  I never thought I would ever back out of a race, but life has other plans sometimes.  It was a tough decision, and one I wish I didn't have to make, but it was the right one.

To get personal, here's the reason why.

Several months ago I registered for this half marathon when they offered the first 100 entrants would pay $17.66.  How could you say no to that?!  So I signed up with initial plans of using this as a training day before I pumped up my cycling miles to get ready for Eagleman.  However, plans change and I will not be racing Eagleman this year (that'll be for another blog) and this race became a little higher priority.  My PR at this distance was set in 2009 with 1:20:28 on a very flat course.

My name is Bryan and I am a triathlete from northern New Jersey.  I grew up a swimmer, but got into running and triathlon in 2004.  Since then I have raced numerous triathlons fromn sprints to Ironman and completed plenty of road races from 5K to marathons.  I want to use this blog to recap some workouts and races to share my thoughts with anyone who wants to read it.  Feel free to comment and tell me what you think!

Enjoy!

Hey everyone!  Looking for some input on the next Tri investment.  I bought my Tri bike last year and Love It! but I am looking to upgrade the wheel set.  I than came across the same questions i'm am sure many Triathletes have come across when thinking about upgrading:

Tubular or clincher?

Zipp? 808? 1080?

Any thoughts? I wanted to see what people are riding or thinking about purchasing... that would make my decision much easier... Thanks!

Not long after I bought a new road bike that actually fit me, and after being thrown to the ground by that very same bike one too many times, I decided it was time to learn some bike handling skills.

If you have played a sport in your life you have probably heard these words somewhere along the line, "Are you hurt or injured?".  Now that I was as an athletic trainer I am the one that is asking the question to my athletes.  Many times especially with younger athletes and recreational athletes, they do not know the difference.  So here are some helpful tips to figure out if you are hurt or injured.

I'm Martha a/k/a Princess - which will become obvious over time (a friend's 8 & 10 year old grandchildren consider me Wonder Woman).  I'm 59 and doing a 70.3 for the first time.  I'm not a novice to triathlons or racing in general, having been running since 1979, swimming since I was a kid (but joined a Masters team in 2001) and triathloning (is that even a word??) since 2000.  I don't take myself very seriously and up til now was a committed back-of-the-packer.  I decided now that our kids are out on their own that I would treat my

Here is a little back story to my blog.  In late October I started to train for a half IM distance triathlon.  I want to do the half IM in Austin this year, but we will see.  Something about saying I completed 70.3 miles of exercise sounded like a good challenge.  I am not sure if it was so that I would have some bragging rights or just prove to myself that I could do it.  The more I have trained the more I feel it is the latter.  This blog details my workouts and the things that I am doing along the way to become half m

I start my posts in RaceGossip.com with a topic that is sometimes under rated or confusing: Nutrition. This is one of the most important parts of sports in addition to proper training and recovery. However in the past few years there is been an increase in information. Now every magazine or book has an article about a diet or food that makes you leaner, increases immunity or gives you more energy. This can either be confusing or mislead people.
