Change in Training

It has been a little bit since I have blogged on here, so I thought I would talk about my training.  So far I have been training for about 6 months solid and I have been struggling with my motivation level.  I have not gotten faster or feel like things are getting easier.  Sure the other day I did a nearly 8 mile run, but there was nothing impressive about it.  A nearly 9 min/mi pace is nothing to cheer about.  I have been using the same training plan structure since I did my first sprint triathlon in 2009.  I have been using training plans from beginnertriathlete.com.  I don't have anything negative to say about it, but I think I just need a change.  I just have gotten into such a routine and I don't seem to challenge myself as much as I used to.  I don't do intervals and I just don't push myself as hard as I would like.

Starting next week I am going to do the Half Ironman training plan from triathlongeeks.com.  This has a little more guidance to the workouts and incorporates strength and conditioning into your weekly workouts.  I used to do this, but the recent training plan I was doing was 6 days a week of swimming/biking/running and was about 10 workouts a week.  I am looking forward to doing more with this new workout plan.  I still think that I need to find a person to go over my swimming stroke, but I think that this new training plan will bring new life to my training.  Please feel free to comment about this plan if you have used it or if you have any advice.

Thanks,

Eric

I haven't heard about that program either, but most of the programs I have used tend to have similar structure, just the duration of them changes based on the race type. So there will 9 workouts minimum. 3 for each sport. The breakdown of that 3 is as follows: interval, medium distance with ~ race pace, slow pace long distance. Always keep in mind, pace is relative... But is hear your frustration, you feel like you
hit a wall. Maybe a liitle break is needed?? Sometimes we tend to forget the big picture, we do this to stay healthy and have fun. Let us know how the new program goes

Hi Roger - I don't know anything about that program. My coach posts workouts for me on Trainingpeaks.com and I believe you can use it by yourself and build your own workouts. Is there a triathlon group anywhere in your area who you could occasionally train with? It's hard to stay motivated by yourself.
